LabBook Installation Instructions

Version 1.0
LabBook Electronic Lab Notebook System
LabBook has been designed and tested on Mac OS 10.4.2 Tiger. To install LabBook on a computer follow the instructions listed below.
  1. Turn on Web Sharing. This is done in the System Preference Panel under "Sharing."
  2. Install PHP. LabBook was designed using Entropy PHP 5.0. You can download a copy of it here.
  3. Download and Install LabBook. To download a copy of the LabBook installer click here.
  4. Configure LabBook. The LabBook Assistant should execute after installation. This Applescript will change key LabBook settings. These settings can be changed by running the LabBook Assistant later (it's found in /Library/LabBook/). If there is an error -5000, don't worry. It's due to a permission issue and should be expected.
  5. Restart the Computer. After installation you will be prompted to restart the computer. After doing this LabBook is installed and running.
  6. Reset Administrator Account. After the computer has restarted you will need to change the default administrator account. Open the following link in a Web Browser (i.e.Safari): http://localhost/LB/ Sign in with the user name as "admin" and the password "LabBook" without the quotes. Click on the User button at the top and change both the user name and password. You must have an administrator account to add users to LabBook.
Further question regarding LabBook should be directed to Mike Silva.
NOTE: Mike Silva no longer works for the Schoenwolf Lab, but does check his email from time to time.
